Sehwag's Incident : Fact or Fiction ?

A video which was taken from Sahara India Sports Awards 2010 started getting viral in Cricketing circle. The reason ? Indian batsman Virender Sehwag is called on the stage by Shahrukh Khan. After some frolics, Shahrukh asks Sehwag to speak about a sledging incident. Shying away at first, and acting rather innocent, he eventually told a story. He said that he was batting around '200' runs and Sachin Tendulkar was on the non-strike end.

Pakistani speed demon, Shoaib Akhtar was bowling bouncers at Sehwag, while saying "Hook maar ke dikha" which was rather provoking, as Akhtar wanted Sehwag to play the hook shot, and get dismissed that way. Akhtar kept on bowling bouncers, then eventually Sehwag said to Akhtar "Woh tera baap khara hai non-striker end pe, usko bol woh maarke dikhayega" which translates to "That is your father standing at non-striker end, he will play hook shot". In the next over, Akhtar bowled the short ball again, and this time Sachin was on the strike, and he hit a 6 off that ball. Then Sehwag spoke to Akhtar "Beta beta hota hai, baap baap hota hai" which means "Father is a father, and son's a son"

Following is the original video

Wow. A very nice and 'spicy' story. Also keeping in touch with the Indo-Pak rivalry. But wait... there seems to be some problem here... actually, this is untrue, if we go by the facts Sehwag mentioned... Let's analyze...

Sehwag mentions that he was around the 200 mark. If we just broaden the range a bit, we'll be able to include his 100+ scores Vs. Pakistan. Also, there would be some other conditions applying here. In the test match, three of the concerned players, i.e Sehwag, Sachin and Akhtar should be present. Let's look at the 100+ scores of Sehwag Vs. Pakistan...

Virender Sehwag has scored 100+ runs against Pakistan exactly 4 times.

He scored 309 runs at Multan. In 2004. In this match, three of them were playing. Interestingly, there was no six next to Sachin's name in this test.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64081.html

After that, Sehwag scored 173 in 2005. The venue was Mohali. Akhtar didn't play this match, hence, no point of discussing whether Sachin scored a six or not (as a matter of fact, he didn't)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64125.html

After that, in the same series, he scored 201 at Bangalore. Obviously, Akhtar wasn't available in this match too.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64127.html

In 2006, at Lahore, Sehwag scored 254. 3 of them played the match, but Sachin never batted. End of it I guess.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/232615.html

What does that prove ? Is Sehwag good at making tales ? Or did he miss something ? What actually goes against him is the fact that he mentioned '200' mark. Had he avoided that, the thing wouldn't have become that  scrutinized. Sehwag, you might be one of the best batsmen out there, but you should be careful when speaking such things. There are eyes and ears perceiving your words, you know...

Want to see perfect pwnages ? Let's have a look... Our Speed Demon squashing them...

First Ever Ball our Demon bowled at Sachin Tendulkar...

Mr. Sehwag... If that story were to be believed, mate, you couldn't play all those bouncers... and that would have been a fact... but how about this ??

Talk about chin music...

Also, further statistics were added by...

Masuud Qazi :  A bit more digging tells Sachin has never hit a 6 versus Pakistan in his 18 test matches.

Sana Kazmi : If you widen the sample to include ODIs in which Shoaib Akhtar, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar all played, you will find that Sachin hit Shoaib Akhtar for a 6 TWICE - once in 2004 at Karachi and once more in 2003 at Centurion.

Ouch! Now that's what you call busting it up. I checked his scores, and obviously he was referring to the test innings and indeed, there's no six against Sachin's name when Sehwag's been around 200, in fact in none of the 4 hundreds of his.

Great stuff, buddy. Never thought of counter checking his hogshit; thought it was true at first. Somebody is busted!

Respect! I am glad you took a step forward and had a research. Most of the facts revolve around these days irrespective they are coming through our own media, foreign media or any other platform, are based on stories which never existed. Its a media war brothers and the best weapon we can use to defend our beloved country (Pakistan) and the only religion (Islam) is to have research. Keep up the good work bro.

At Karachi 2004:
Virender Sehwag made 79.

At Centurion 2003:
Virender Sehwag made 21. (Maybe Viru got confused between 21 and 210?)

Thanks a lot for the support folks ! I had an urge to research upon it, and I did so. Never imagine such response. Once again. Thanks :)

@Sana Lol ! Viru really has got art of 'doctoring' his memories then :P

@Masuud That's something I heard too. I was astounded at first. Sehwag can be a prick at times! Thanks.
*Adding some pwnage videos.

amazing you guys are taking this seriously. he is trying to have a bit of fun and mucked it up. he did change the story though. this was the multan game and shoaib was constantly peppering sehwag with the short stuff. sehwag had been lucky to have survived a few chances during this knock and shoaib was baiting him to hook. sehwag got tired of it and asked one of the fielders, "ye bowling kar raha he ya bheek maang raha hai?" even the pak slippers were giggling.

as for sachin hitting 6s, he did hit a few in a friendly. abdul qadir knows all about that. that was a great sledge as well but a story for another day. :)

the entire crux of this assertion rests upon the fact that sachin didn't hit a six in the multan match. based on that, there are a host of other examples which seem to claim that said incident never happened because it proves that the two stipulations laid out by sehwag - his score being near 200, and sachin hitting a six, have never happened.

its great investigative work, but ultimately futile. the sehwag story was reported by several other people when the match happened itself. perhaps its untrue, but i am a bit surprised that we will go to such great lengths to disprove sehwag by conjecture, rather than doing the obvious thing of looking up whether other people have reported this story or not. rahul bhattchraya in 'pundits in pakistan' had already mentioned this story around 6 years before sehwag's speech.

i am no indian apologist, but proving that this story was apparently faked makes us look a little bit sad. i am taking nothing away from your great digging up of facts, and i am surprised and happy to see that sachin doesn't have a test six against us, but none of this really disproves the story.

as your videos show, we have plenty to be proud of. so what if one video goes viral? we have millions of instances that we can look back on and enjoy without needing to rob someone else of theirs.

Once again you did an Awesome job...Well you wrote very well and when there are optimists and patriots like you no one is going to Provoke our Stars, Cricketers and nation..Blabbers just Blabber and show that how much they are Jealous of others..Awesome Work done..!!!! :)
The Evidence you Provide is a great work and all the videos regarding to the incident renders the case in favor of Akhtar...Well done...

I read somewhere before, what actually happened was Akhtar was continuously asking the same thing Maar ke dikha, Maar ke dikha, then Sehwag retorted Abe Bowler hai ya bheekmanga hai. And it happened in the 2004 tour.

Probably Sehwag is making this up but the orignal story is hilarious too.

Hello Zeeshan,

I saw the video two three times but didn't find Sehwag mentioning Multan test match.

If it multan test match then surely Sehwag did a wrong thing.

But if you cannot prove that it is a multan test match then you did a wrong thing.

I just want to know the fact.

Thanks,
Ashok.

I admire Pakistani's for only reason. Paki's are very proud even in their downfall. They are so proud that, even in their defeat to Indians, they celebrate their personal ego !

Hats Off Zeeshan for show casing this !
